LEED Gold TEMF featured on USGBC website

10/12/11

The Medium Tactical Equipment Maintenance Facility (TEMF) project for the US Army Corps of Engineers is featured on the US Green Building Council website, here.

FSi was the mechanical engineer for the TEMF, which includes maintenance bays for military vehicles, along with administrative and training facilities. Building performance boasts 47% energy savings and 54% water savings over a baseline building. An impressive 89% of construction waste was diverted from the landfill.

The energy efficient design achieved 9 of the possible 10 points for LEED 2.2 credit EA1 by utilizing transpired air solar heating, air to air heat exchangers, demand control ventilation to modulate air flow in the vehicle repair area, and in-floor radiant heat to allow the ambient air temperature to be lowered to conserve energy. The project was designed in 3D using BIM software for improved communication with the owner and stakeholders, to eliminate conflicts between systems, to improve coordination between trades, and to facilitate operation and maintenance.
