UW Medical Center D, E and F Wings Fire Protection
FSi, as prime consultant in two separate phases, investigated existing conditions and provided the fire protection design for the existing D, E and F Wings at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle.
Over 140,000 s.f. of laboratory, office and utility areas did not have fire sprinklers. The design for additional sprinkler protection was provided with connections made to multiple existing combination standpipes. Several additional floor control valves were required with new water flow switches and supervised valves connected to the existing fire alarm system. Main sprinkler branch piping runs were coordinated with the existing ductwork and building structure. In addition, FSi surveyed areas with existing factory recalled sprinkler heads and an additional 5,000 s.f. were replaced with new sprinklers. Responsibility during the construction phase included the shop drawing equipment review and assistance to the UW construction manager.
