NAS Whidbey Island Control Tower

FSi provided HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection design for design/build construction of a 136-ft tall Air Traffic Control Tower located at the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island in Oak Harbor, Washington.

FSi coordinated with Navy SPAWAR for government installation of sensitive computer controls equipment. FSi designed a fully redundant AHU systems serving electronics rooms and the tower cab which house specialized and sensitive computer equipment. The AHU systems include humidification, odor/contaminant filter control and sound attenuation. We paid special attention to locate units in confined spaces while maintaining adequate access clearance. We provided detailed coordination to route ductwork up into the tower cab with limited clearance (due to structure and mission critical communications wiring). A 20-ton air cooled chiller and piping system was designed to provide chilled water to the tower.

FSi also designed plumbing for the upper level break room and toilet room and a house vacuum system. Fire protection and alarm design includes a combination wet-standpipe/riser and sprinkler system with control valves and special electrical shunt-trips installed at the elevator machine room, tower cab and each electronic equipment room.
