BF Goodrich Paint Hangar

FSi was the prime consultant, mechanical engineer and electrical engineer on this project designed to upgrade the existing facility to full capability allowing for the painting of wide body aircraft.

Design included implementation of a primary/secondary air system to effectively capture paint over spray and eliminate contamination of the painted surface. Initial phase included evaluation of existing system capabilities and schematic design to support the client in their decision making process. Airflow measurements were taken to determine existing exhaust fan and trench exhaust system’s ability to handle greater flow. The final system design provided 300% increase in air flow in the hangar by adding five air handlers, six exhaust fans utilizing both existing floor trench and side wall exhaust. Project was accomplished on an exceptionally fast track basis. The system’s design included 150,000 pounds of sheet metal, that was installed and in operation within ten weeks.
