  • King County Solid Waste Transfer Station Feasibility Study As part of our on-going Work Order contract, FSi provided mechanical consulting services for King County Solid Waste Division (KCSWD) at a warehouse on Harbor Island in the Port of Seattle. KCSWD was considering purchasing the Fisher Mills building to convert part of it into a inter-modal facility for transferring waste from train cars onto barges. Since the rest of the building would be leased to other tenants, KCSWD wanted to separate and meter water services to the different parts of the building. Through examination of several generations of drawings, site investigations and personnel interviews, FSi was able to determine arrangement of the existing water services, and developed several options with cost estimates for achieving the County’s goals. Due to the size and complexity of the site, FSi was required to work closely with the regulatory authorities and utility purveyors to determine which options were feasible. FSi was able to facilitate this work on a very compressed schedule to allow the County to make their offer of building purchase in a timely manner.
