Navy Shore Intermediate Maintenance Facility

FSi was prime consultant, and mechanical and fire protection engineer, for conversion of a 56,000 SF warehouse with mezzanines, into a shore side maintenance facility for repair of docked ships.

The Shore Intermediate Maintenance Facility (SIMF) facility includes machine and welding shops, calibration labs, a specialty area for divers, and 8,000 sf of administrative area. Design work also included coordination for the installation of 600 pieces of government furnished shop equipment ranging from a 10,000 lb lathe and a divers decompression chamber, to small testing gages and instruments. Of particular interest was the design of the engine test facility where vehicle exhaust, engine cooling water systems and fuel oil systems were developed for load testing of both automotive and marine diesel engines.
